The Emerson Mansion restoration  will be a multi-phase community building initiative that will result in the restoration of the Emerson Mansion in Baltimore City’s Reservoir Hill neighborhood and the creation of significant educational and cultural programming to benefit the neighborhood and the city.

In the initial phase, the focus will be on the returning the  Emerson Mansion, a 19th century Baltimore City facility that has fallen into disrepair and has been vacant for more than two decades.  In 2019, with support from Heathy Neighborhoods Inc and Department of Housing and Community Development, the property was secured from further damage through the installation of a new Brava synthetic  tile roof.  Structural stabilization of the roof structure has also occurred.

The restoration will adapt the space for current building codes and new uses. Over the years, the property has been divided into office space, and the restoration will attempt to restore the original character of the space.

Once the facility restoration is complete, the building will be utilized as a community hub and will contain, artist / teacher / other housing, and non-profit / community assembly / office space.  The project plan calls for the building to house an early childhood center in the long term once an operator and operational funding is identified.   Local community artists, teachers and general residents who are committed to being thoughtful engaged with the community will reside at the facility.  Residents will be requested to participate and or lead educational, art,  and community development programming that will be sponsored by Eutaw Place Non-Profit Corporation and will primarily take place at the Emerson Mansion.
